Beach Days

We had so much fun at Momma Pat and Poppa Joe's house. The first evening the boys wanted to head to the giant sand pile and check out the beach. They couldn't resist getting in the water clothes and all.The next morning, the boys wanted to help Poppa Joe out in his garden. Clayton found a zucchini.Oliver found a cherry tomato
Look at that cabbage!
Here is our veggie loot.
......then we spent the day at the beach. We spent a lot of time digging in the sand and building sand castles. Check this one out.

Me and the boys are headed out for a road trip until Tuesday. We are going to Lake Kiowa to Momma Pat and Poppa Joe's house. The boys are really looking forward to spending some time at the beach (the lake beach). Joel is really looking forward to some peace and quiet.

I made this apron yesterday. I love this book "Bend the Rules Sewing". It has great stuff in it. I may add some more eyelet ruffles to the bottom...not sure.

Clayton's Busy Week

This week Clayton has been at VBS, swimming lessons, and "Camp Marlene". He has not been home at all since Sunday. It has been my trial run for what life will be like when Clayton goes to kindergarten. It is actually really easy with just one kid. I have gotten so much done around here....although it is very quiet and Oliver really misses him. I miss him too. I am not used to it being quiet. Tuesday night, Clayton had show day for swimming lessons. He has turned into a fish this year. He can swim the entire length of the pool.
Getting ready to jump in with clothes on. He is learning what it feels like in case he falls in on accident.Back float
Ready, JUMP!Crawl stroke across the poolDiving for ringsWay to go, buddy!! Tonight we had family night at South Garland Baptist for Clayton's VBS. They are doing Outrigger Island. I am not sure what he has learned since he has been with Marlene all week. I can't wait to see what he has learned. His teacher said he gets really excited about the bible stories and wants to finish the story before it is told. I guess he is listening at home.

New Addition

I am so excited about the new addition to my blog. Many of you that know me well know how much I love the 80's and my middle school and high school years. I have so many great memories. Not so much elementary school...I was the fat kid. So....I decided to have a weekly post dedicated to these great memories. It will be titled "Time Warp Tuesdays". It may just be a picture, a favorite song, or favorite thing I have great memories of. I hope you look forward to reading these as much as I am looking forward to writing them.

Non halpinboys blog readers: I can't wait until the weekend.
My 5 blog readers: What are you talking about? I can't wait until Time Warp Tuesday...the greatest day of the week.

Time Warp Tuesday

How I Met My Husband
I met my husband in the fall of 1991...Freshman year. Good ole' Garland High. We actually met at dinner after the Homecoming dance. Joel's date was "parsley eating" Mckenzie, and my date was "mr. can't look anyone in the eye when he speaks" Scott. We sat next to each other at the fancy Olive Garden. Our dates on the other side of us. He was incredibly funny and I remember he called the mozerella sticks "cheese grooves". After this, we wouldn't come in contact again until the second day of school fall of 1992...Sophomore year. I hurt my ankle really bad in gymnastics and was on crutches, so Joel decided to make his move. He sat next to me in English class and at the end of class he asked if he could help me with my books. So smooth. Joel told his friends, "I will date this girl before the end of the school year." It took several months, but I finally came around. Joel asked me to Homecoming, and I told him I would have to think about it. I later said, "YES!" From that point on.....I was hooked.Yes, the panty hose are silver and I was also wearing silver high heels. AWESOME!!
(ignore the flash on the picture, I don't have a scanner and had to take a picture of the picture)
I am sure we danced to "End of the Road"(boysIImen) that night. Although we've come to the end of the road...still I can't let go.........

A person I work with introduced me to this multi-purpose cleaning solution. It smells like Lavender. I was so excited to find this giant container of it at Sam's. I came home and immediately sprayed the kitchen with me new solution. FYI it does need to be diluted. I used full strength and it REALLY smells of lavender in our house. I need to maintain some femininity in this household overun with testosterone.

Yeah, Oliver!!

After swimming today at Nonna's, Oliver kept saying he needed to go potty, so I sat him on the potty and......tada....he did it!!! Oliver tee-teed in the potty!!! He was so proud of himself.

Cupcake Pops

Well, I have been wanting to make cupcake pops for a while now from Bakerella. I did not realize how difficult it would be to make them. This is how I feel about making cupcake pops. After two days of work, dirtying every bowl in my pantry and every spoon in the drawer, and raising my blood pressure to 250/120....here are the results. After a few run-ins with the sticks, I just went without. It was a little easier this way.Aren't they cute?? They got rave reviews. Oliver loved them.*end results great, but a lot of work. I have never worked with candy melts and had a hard time figuring out how to get the temp just right. Maybe I should stick to slice and bake.

Puppet Show

Clayton and I had a fun afternoon planning and creating a puppet show while Oliver was napping. We bought some foam puppets that we glued and pieced together. While those were drying, we created the stage in Clayton's room.
Busy making the set Setting up the stageClayton also made an invitation for Daddy to come to the show.
Let the "Jungle Show" begin!!!
Applause heard from the crowd.

Big Brother's Duties

Yesterday, we got Oliver a little potty seat. I am not planning on potty training at the moment, but he loves to sit on the potty. I guess he sees his big bro doing it. Well, I woke up before the boys this morning, and shortly after, I heard Clayton getting out of bed. I then heard him go into Oliver's room. He likes to get Oliver out of his crib in the morning for some reason. Then I heard the funniest thing going on.

Clayton: Oliver, since you just woke up you need to go potty. Let brother help you.
I then hear Oliver's diaper coming off.
Oliver: I sittin on Elmo potty.
Clayton: We need to get you potty trained. Do you want to wear some underwear today? You can get a sticker if you go potty. You are doing great.
I then had to go in and get a picture.
Clayton: How do you potty train someone?

So funny!!! Clayton is very motivated to get his brother potty trained. That would be great if he did.

My kind of Man

After dropping Clayton off at swimming lessons, I loaded Oliver up in the car. Oliver said,"I wanna go Target", so off we went. A man after my own heart.

Joel's Diagnosis

Well, the foot is not broken. Joel has metatarsus adductus. It is a foot condition he was born
with...probably due to being confined in utero to a tiny space with his 8lb. 14oz. brother. It is usually diagnosed at birth or early in childhood. 31 years later....
I always wondered why he walked on the outside of his shoes. He is in pain because there is some inflammation that has occured due to the condition. He will be wearing a boot for the next three weeks, bought some insoles for his shoes, and will go back to the dr. in 3 weeks. No more flip-flops for this flip-flop loving boy!!! Maybe some cool old man shoes!!

Rainy Fun!

Clayton's swimming lesson was canceled, but the boys had fun playing in the rain.

Jill of All Trades

....well, sort of. Since the man of the house has a foot injury that has caused him to limp around for three weeks, I have taken up mowing. Yes, ladies, I am mowing the yard. It is really not that bad. This is not saying that I will continue when the hubby's foot heals....just to get that straight. There does need to be a little instruction on how to mow under a tree with out getting beaten by many long tree limbs and leaves. I tend to leave patches of grass under the trees for this reason. So, if you ever want to come sit under a tree, come on over...ours have plenty of padding.

There is an upside to the mowing. As some of you may know, I am obsessed with my Polar watch (heartrate monitor/calorie counter). The greatest thing I have ever owned. Check out the stats. I didn't even finish the entire yard.(405 calories)

Joel will be going to the podiatrist tomorrow to check out the foot, so hopefully this is only short term.

The Clutch

I made this clutch for Hillary for her birthday. I have been dying to post it but had to wait until I gave it to her. I think it turned out well. I got the pattern from the book Bend the Rules Sewing. It was a fun project. I can't wait to make more!!

Second Round

I made my second pair of pjs for Oliver...this time with a pattern. This was much more difficult. Luckily they are just pjs. If you see the boys in their new pjs, please try not to comment on the fact that they look like a monkey made them. I am a beginner and am trying to learn the art of sewing. The shirt turned out really cute though.Cute little boy modeling his new pjs. He picked out the material.

Pump It Up!

We went to Pump it Up Jr. today with some friends. It's cheap, out of the heat, and the kids had a blast. The boys have already been twice this summer.Go, Amelia, go!!
Jumping P!
Clayton and Grant "the guards"
Sweet curly headed sisters.

Sewing Projects

I have come up with too many sewing projects for myself. Clayton has been wanting me to make him some clothes on the sewing machine, so I decided to start with pj's. We went and picked out fabric and a friend of mine was going to let me borrow a pattern. Clayton wanted to sleep in these new pj's tonight, so I had to come up with my own pattern....a very difficult process for a beginner. They turned out okay...if you don't look too closely at the seams. No time for the shirt yet. Maybe you will get to see the finished product soon.

This is my favorite drawing Clayton has done recently.Clayton dragged all of his "kids" into the den this morning, so he promised he would put them back where they go before bedtime. This is what he did with them. This picture reminded me of a scene from E.T.
