Pizza Picnic at the Park

We had a lazy Saturday with nothing planned (besides the 8:30 am football game).  It was nice to just hang around the house, get some things done, and let the kids play with their legos.  By dinner time, it was time to get out of the house and enjoy the lovely evening.  We decided to have a pizza picnic.  Daisy got to come too!

The boys' favorite thing to do at the park is walk up and down the "creek", try and catch tiny fish and throw rocks.

Then a little swinging to end the evening!

I am loving this weather!!!

Ducks like Crazy

There were ducks like crazy at the pond today.  Elliot just fed them and was not scared at all.  I was kind of scared.  There were so many of them and they ALL wanted food!!

September Reading

September reading did not disappoint.  I started out reading the Above the Line Series by Karen Kingsbury.  I have yet to read the final book because it is forever checked out at the library.  These are a continuation of the books I read last month.  I absolutely LOVE her books and would recommend them to anyone.  She is a christian author with a powerful message in each and every book.  They are such a quick read too!

The next book was A Dog's Purpose.  I just randomly picked this out and I LOVED it.  A dog narrates the book, so it is really funny.  If you are a dog owner or just love dogs, this is a must read.  I look at my dog differently now.

order

This is the first book that I have not liked in a really long time.  I have NEVER put a book down without finishing it (well, except in high school when I read the first chapter and then moved on to the Cliff notes).  This would be a first.  I could only make it through two chapters.  The hardest part for me, besides the strange content, was that there were no quotation marks.  Have you ever tried to read a book with no quotation marks?  The concentration that it required was too much for me.

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake

The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers was next up.  The first book is A Voice in the Wind.  This book is INCREDIBLE...WOW!!!  I cannot even explain how powerful this book is.  It is set during the first Jewish-Roman war around 70 A.D.  This young Jewish woman is captured and is a slave for a wealthy Roman family.  She is a Christian, and struggles on how to share her faith to with this family since Christians were murdered at this time.  It is such a powerful and bold story as you watch her continually trust in God.  I love books that are based so much on real historical facts.  This book was AWESOME!!!!!!!  I had a LONG wait sitting at the airport in Atlanta, and a LONG flight home, so I had no trouble putting away this 500 page book.

The Second book is An Echo in the Darkness.  This is the book I am on now.  I know I will love it just as much.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers was incredible.  It was based on the book of Hosea and is set in the 1850s.  It was a beautiful story of a man's love for a woman who was broken and had been sold into prostitution as an 8 year old girl.  He continued to love her no matter what...Read this.

Room Makeover

I have never really done much with the boys' room.  They kind of have hodge podge bedding, random drawings taped with duct tape to the walls, and furniture that is not really good for two boys sharing a room.  There has never been places to put stuff and their room has always been such a mess.  I could not wait to do a room makeover for them.  My sister so kindly gave us her bunkbeds that she was not using anymore and my friend, Sarah, was moving and gave us a dresser.  SCORE!!  So basically, I had to paint the walls, spray paint their book shelf/tv stand and the dresser and purchase the linens.

I LOVE it!!  It needs some finishing touches like curtains, some pics on the walls, but for now, it looks great!!

Boy Makeover

Clayton has NOT wanted me to cut his hair.  He wanted to grow it out to look like Luke Skywalker......

.....ummmmm....don't think it is working out so well.  First of all, we are dealing with an 8 year old who has a hard enough time remembering to brush his teeth.  Hair brushing is really not on his radar.  I also think Luke Skywalker had a stylist!!

Plus, we are dealing with ALL KINDS of crazy cowlicks.  His hair is wavy and a little coarse.  And, well, I just did not like it. I think it looked like Lego hair which is actually a look that he likes also.   I like the clean cut look.  He finally agreed to a haircut, but told me I could not touch it and it HAD to be cut by a professional and it HAD to be at Sports Clips.  Seriously....
Just in time for school picture day!!!

He will thank me one day!!

Fall Decor

As soon as September hits, I am so ready for fall.  Even though it is still 100 degrees here, it makes me feel better if I put some jeans on and start decorating with some pumpkins, mums and throw on a pot of chili.  Maybe if I keep it up, it will bring the cooler weather....maybe??? I have become addicted to pinterest and have found so many cute and inexpensive ways to decorate for seasons.  I made this wreath for less than 10 bucks and in less than an hour.  Tutorial found here.  Cute!!

Sleepy Baby

Elliot has not been a good napper lately.  Thankfully, he sleeps 12-14 hours at night, so he gets plenty of sleep.  Today, I put him down at one and he played in his crib for an hour.  We had somewhere to be at 3, so I went ahead and got him up and he wanted to watch Thomas (his new obsession).  I was folding laundry and came back to find this.....

Sweet, sweet baby!!  Guess he was tired after all.

Football Season

I love football...not watching it on tv kind of football.  I like pee-wee football, high school football, and college football (well, really only TCU football and when I was actually in college).  I think it is the memories that go along with it!!  It also represents the fall and cooler weather.  LOVING that!!  I was so excited when Clayton wanted to play football this year.  He is starting out with flag football and Joel is coaching him.  He has really started to learn the game and it has only been going on for two weeks.

My dad, Gigi and Grandpa and Marlene all came to watch him play.  I let my dad borrow a chair I had brought (which was really his chair I had borrowed a long time ago) and he fell straight through the seat.  It was our half-time entertainment.  HA!
We won 12-0.  Go Chargers!!!

1 year

One year ago today, I wrote this post.  I had just gotten off the phone with our adoption agency and was told that we were approved for the ethiopia program and could move forward in the process.  In some ways it seems like yesterday.  In other ways it seems like a lifetime ago.

Baseball Loving Boy

This boy LOVES sports.  He loves baseball, basketball and now football.  He will throw baskets in his little tikes hoop all day long and he will swing a bat all day long.  He got this t-ball set for his birthday and he plays with it constantly.  He has to have a baseball hat on and usually wants the glove on too.

 Batterbatterbatterbatter....SWING!!!
Off he goes....he gets a homerun every single time!!
He has a new technique that we are trying to get approved through the Major league.  Knee hitting.
 Works for us!!!

First Day of Preschool

This is my baby, but now he is big...ready for his first day of preschool.

He had a great day in his new class.  I forgot how much I can get done in five hours minus kids.  It was strange only taking one child in.  I am so used to having my arms full.
