Cowtown Half

Well, I finally did it!  After training for an entire year.  I ran my first half marathon.  And it was AWESOME!!!  I ran it in 2 hours and 26 minutes.  I had the best running partner too.  The hardest part was at mile 9.  It was a huge hill, but I knew my family was at the top of it, so it made it so much better.  Before the race, I got to see my long-time friend from my freshman year at TCU (almost 20 years ago).  She was running a 50k (31 miles).  It was fun to get to see her for just a moment.  She has been encouraging me this past year.  She is trying to get me to run a full...ummmm...we'll see.  I have my next half April 5th.

The No Good, very Bad Birthday

Oliver has been so excited about his birthday and his party.  He has been counting down the days.  He came home from school and could not wait for his friends to come over.  Clayton made himself the party planner and even came up with some party games.  The boys were going to spend the night and then go play laser tag in the morning.

Looks like he's having a blast.  I then had to leave for the evening and left Joel in charge.  Around 10 pm, I got a phone call that Oliver was throwing up and he had called the boys' parents to come get them.  Ugh!  So sad.  My heart broke for him.

Not only was he sick, he was really sick!  He threw up all night long and was in tremendous pain.    He said, "This is the worst day of my life."  I could not have agreed more.  I changed his sheets 10 times that night.  We were eventually out of sheets, so he just laid on a mattress protector.  Poor buddy! The next day, he slept all day.  He did not get out of bed one time.  But, in the evening, he was back to his old self.  Stomach virus, I despise you!
We were about to head out the door to celebrate his actual birthday at my sister's house and low and behold, people started dropping like flies.  Elliot and Clayton started throwing up about the same time.  So, I sent Joel and Oliver.  My family had a little surprise planned for Oliver and they all hid and jumped out when he came in.  I wish I could've been there!

Facetime is the best and I got to sing him happy birthday with the rest of the family.  He got to do a birthday redo the next weekend.

The Many Things I Love about Oliver

He has the best dance moves.
He is creative. His art is amazing!
He is sensitive.
He is strong-willed. Like his momma!
Out of all the boys, he is the most affectionate.
He thrives on one- on- one time and positive reinforcement.
He sees the needs of others. The other day, Joel was out working on the fence and he said Oliver came out with a glass of cold water and told him he thought he would need some water since he had been working so hard.
He is the best big brother and the best little brother.

The Many Things I Love about Elliot

The Tiny Freckles that are sprinkled across his tiny nose.
He is super competitive.  He does not like to lose and he thinks he is just as big as his big brothers.
His voice.  If you have never heard him talk, you must.
His laugh.  The best belly laugh you will ever hear.
His love of junk food.  It's in the genes.
He is a helper. He wants to help me cook.  He is my sidekick.
He keeps his brothers in-line. "Ah-ver, you got tee-tee on the floor, clean it up". "Clayton, you are supposed to be doing your homework." "You have gone over your time on the xbox".  I guess it could also be known as bossy, but I love it.  We sometimes call him "Boss Hog".
He loves books and loves me to read to him.
He is one of a kind!

Second Saturday

Our church is doing a mission project every second Saturday of the month.  I had a blast serving our city with this group of people this past week.

This weather is completely obnoxious!  This is TEXAS! The snow is pretty and all, but it is cold and driving in it is a mess.  We like to get out and go places.  As we were getting ready to head to the gym, snow started coming down pretty hard.  We weren't far from home, so I figured, no big deal.  I have driven in worse conditions all the way downtown to get to work.  After my run, we headed home and my normal path was closed down due to an accident.  I headed the long way home, and smacked right into the back of a guy's truck.  My breaks just locked up and I just slid.   I got out of the car, left it running (stupid mistake), was turned around giving my insurance info, and then I see my little guy walking around the car...and he had LOCKED the doors.  And it's snowing, and really cold, and I am sweaty, and my coat is in the car, and we have no spare key.  Thankfully, I hit the nicest guy in town and he let me sit in the car until Joel arrived.

Then my AWESOME husband opens my car door using a crow bar, a fly swatter and a broom....I don't know.
In the meantime, Oliver is having fun in the snow at school!!

I am ready for Winter to be OVER!!

34 months down and many more to go!  I am just so thankful at this moment that we are still on this journey. My favorite song recently has been Oceans by Hillsong United.

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk along the water
Wherever you would call me
Take me deeper than my feet would ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
in the presence of my Savior.

I just need to walk along the water, trust, obey and He will continue to lead me.  Thank you, Jesus.
